The Reverend Lucas Grubbs

Rector | Rector

Fr. Lucas Grubbs began as the Rector of St. Bede’s in August of 2022. Originally from Lewiston, Idaho, Fr. Lucas is a Westerner through and through! He comes to us most recently from the Diocese of Alaska, where he served among the people of Holy Trinity, Juneau, and where he met and was married to his wife, Sara. Prior to this, he served as Priest-In-Charge of St. John’s, Ouray, Colorado. At St. John’s, Ouray, Fr. Lucas helped the parish grow in numbers through outreach and presence to the wider Ouray community, helping the church to see itself beyond the stone walls of the inside—and helping the congregation to see that they are a part of a larger and diverse community that it must to engage in order to thrive. In Ouray, he also served as a circuit rider to the congregations of All Saints, Crested Butte, and, St. Michael’s, Telluride. In the diocese of Colorado, Fr. Lucas also served as Rector of Church of the Ascension, Denver, and as Interim Rector of St. Luke’s, Denver. Prior to Colorado, Fr. Lucas served as Canon Pastor of St. Michael’s Cathedral, Boise, and Curate at Christ Church, New Haven. Fr. Lucas is fluent in Spanish (B.A. Spanish), having lived and studied throughout Spain during undergraduate at the University of Idaho, and seminary at Yale Divinity School (M.Div.). An avid traveler and lover of culture, he began an exchange program with Wescott House, Church of England Seminary in Cambridge and Yale Divinity School which thrives to this day. Also a lover of worship and music, Fr. Lucas earned a Masters in Sacred Theology (S.T.M. Liturgy) from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. He has found his home among the bilingual parish of St. Bede’s, a community that thrives through beautiful liturgy and worship, Spanish and English ministry, and authentic and generous outreach to the many cultures of Santa Fe. He sees the walls of the church as very porous and the need of the parish family to engage its community in ways beyond Sunday mornings. “The church must meet people where they are…on the streets, at home, in the coffee shops and bars, at work, in the market place. We must meet people in their sufferings, their joys, their challenges and triumphs. Our faith must matter to daily life in God’s world, or it won’t matter at all…” Fr. Lucas thrives in the great outdoors and is an avid hiker and lover of wilderness, and sees this as a vital part of his ministry. In the Summer of ‘21, he completed a solo hike of the 500 mile Colorado Trail from Denver to Durango. He and Sara are truly grateful and thrilled to make St. Bede’s, Santa Fe, and the Diocese of the Rio Grande their home!
