Jerry Nelson

Music Director/Parish Administrator | Director de Música/Administrador Parroquial

Jerry's love of music began while he sang in his church youth choir, where he at age twelve decided to learn to play the organ. Jerry's involvement in the religious music ministry continued throughout his school years. Having served churches in both his home state of Wisconsin and Arizona, Jerry spent 17 years at St. Bede's Episcopal Church in various roles, including as a choir member, organist and choir director, as well as a member of the parochial meeting. In 2000, he was invited by then-music director Gerald Near to serve as section leader of the Church of Holy Faith and in 2006 as music director. Jerry returned to St. Bede's as his musical director in October 2009. Today his responsibilities include playing the organ, piano, and preparing and conducting the Parish Choir. The inspiration to work in the choral field came from his long friendship with Lawrence Bandfield, founder of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale and previous conductor of the St. Bede's choir for many years. Jerry's dedication to music is not limited to church music, as he has participated in many other organizations as a soloist, choir member, conductor, and accompanist. Since his ministry at St. Bede's is not full-time, Jerry also works as a finance consultant and as president of the Sangre de Cristo choir, a community choir.
