A Message from the Rector

The following is a letter sent by Fr. Richard to The New Mexican:

The vandalism to the Menorah on the Plaza is a sacrilege and offends all communities and people of faith. At the core of this Anti Semitic action is a mindset grounded on hatred, bigotry and ignorance. The divisiveness of religious and ethnic hatred is a cancer that eats not only at our local community but the wider world as well. Santa Fe is "The City Different" and hence should be a place that puts the evil of religious and ethnic bigotry and hatred to rest as a light to the rest of the world. The lights of the Menorah represent the triumph of hope and miracle in the midst of war. The Spirit of those lights can never be extinguished. St. Bede's Episcopal Church stands in support and solidarity with Rabbi Berel Levertov and all members of the Chabad. We stand in support and solidarity with all members of the  wider Jewish Community in Santa Fe.  Let us all covenant together to keep the Light shining.
In Peace,
Fr. Richard Murphy, Rector
St. Bede's Episcopal Church

Lay Pastoral Care

The Rev. Kyra Kerr and Judy Waite chair the Lay Pastoral Care Committee, which meets at noon on the last Monday of each month. Please call Kyra or Judy (or the church office at 982-1133) if you are interested in participating in this vital ministry, or if you need some short-term help or know someone who does.

New Book from a St. Beder

Long-time St. Beder Shirley Reeser McNally is the author of a new book, When Husbands Die (ISBN: 0-86534-442-6, $18.95). Shirley has gathered stories from almost 80 women which explore this life change and its effects on themselves, their families, their friends, and their futures. The book is useful both for women who can learn how others are handling their widowhood and for couples who are planning for what might well occur in their futures. For information or to order, call 505-982-5113 or email mepcosfnm (at) comcast.net.

Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity Builds

St. Bede's has a Habitat team that builds on every fourth Saturday. Our team is presently very small, comprised mostly of people from other faith communities. If you are interested in joining this wonderful ministry, please contact Lydia Pendley. (And remember: If the fourth Saturday doesn't work for you, Habitat can use you at any time!)

Albertson's Community Partners

St. Bede's Church generates almost $6,000 each year from the Albertson's "Community Partners" program. If your store receipts from Albertson's include the words "successfully linked," then you are registered. If not, we will help you to register with St. Bede's as beneficiary. Please fill out a sign-up sheet in the Common Room.

Hospitality Committee Help Requested

Hospitality Committee volunteers help set up and serve at Sunday morning coffee hours and other social events throughout the year. We still need people who can help with coffee hours after the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. Please call Harry Bixby or the church office at 982-1133 for info.

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found box is in the office hallway, with lost hats, gloves, glasses, and keys patiently waiting the return of their owners.

Volunteers Are Always Needed

Over twenty volunteer ministry areas are active at St. Bede's. Please check the Vestry bulletin board in the foyer for a list and who to contact. Volunteer, serve, and meet new friends!

Please Keep Your Contact Info Current

If you have recently moved or joined St Bede's and your address has changed, please call Charmaine at the church office (982-1133) and give her your new information. This will help reduce the number of people recieving double—or no—news regarding the church. It will also ensure accuracy when we publish our church directories. Thank you!

"Empties4 Cash"

The "Empties-4-Cash" program pays off! If we could send in a box of used INK-JET cartridges every six weeks or so we could make quite a tidy sum to help our budget. (PLEASE NOTE: Used laser cartridges are NOT acceptable. Only INK-JET cartridges can be mailed in.) If the cartridges are in good condition, we are paid $2.00 for each one. The collection box is in the Common Room on the west wall under the "Empties-4-Cash" poster. Please bring us your tired, your used INK-JET cartridges!
