A group of parishioners is involved in the Prayers of the People (POP) ministry. Each church season we are called to meet by Mother Catherine, who tells us what the focus should be for the upcoming season. If the season is relatively short, like Advent, only one set of prayers will be needed. For longer seasons the focus may shift, then more than one set will be required. In any case, we have to work ahead to allow time for preparation of purposeful and reflective prayers for the season and for translation of the prayers into Spanish.
The group is directed by the guidelines and rubrics found on page 383 of THE BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER (BCP). In addition, Mother Catherine usually has templates and suggestions to get things started. We try not to reinvent the wheel; i.e., we use what we are given or search the internet to see what others have done. Then we “take what we like and leave the rest.” In every case, we work to adapt ideas and language to meet the needs and desires of St. Bede’s parishioners. [Yes, you are in our thoughts while we are engaged in this ministry.]
