Juárez House Building

St. Bede’s parishioners, members of other faith communities and of the larger community form a team each year to build houses for a family living in extreme poverty in Juárez, Mexico, and St. Bede’s sponsors the project financially.

This mission work began in January 2000. As of March 2016, we had built 23 houses. The next build is scheduled for March 2017.  We are exploring the possibility of a Medical mission team in addition to the building team.  The building is done through Missions Ministries, Highland Ranch, Colorado, who works with protestant pastors in the Juárez area to select families, and purchases building materials, oversees the build, and arranges housing/meals for the team. Missions Ministries also operates a medical clinic, two community libraries, and provides food outreach through local churches.

The house building teams include people of all ages – ranging from 12 years and up.  The 2016 team was made up of 13 people from St. Bede’s, the larger Santa Fe community, and Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, Los Alamos.  We will continue to work collaboratively with Trinity on the Hill for future builds sponsored by either of our churches.

Perhaps next year YOU would like to join us!

Financial support for the house building and team expenses is provided through St. Bede’s Outreach funds, proceeds from the “Juárez Store,” fundraising events throughout the year, and individual donations.
