Car Seats for Refugee Children

“Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” Romans 15:7

At the recent Adult Forum sponsored by the Justice and Peace Committee, Mi’raj Bukhari-Frayer, leader of the Santa Fe Refugee Collaborative, brought us up to date. The refugee families from Syria and other countries have endured unspeakable hardships – torn from their homes, seeing family members killed and the resulting trauma, but they are adjusting to life in America. Language barriers and employment challenges are at the forefront of what they face.

Parishioners of St. Bede’s have been providing much-appreciated support in numerous ways and the most recent request is for car seats and booster seats for the children. While few have vehicles, they need these items when transportation is provided by volunteers. The specifics:

for infants, rear facing,
for toddler to 5 year-olds, forward facing
for 5 to 7 year-olds, booster seat

If you have had any one of these for visiting grandchildren and it is no longer needed, please bring it to the Common Room where you’ll find the large turquoise box. Target currently has booster seats on sale for under $20. If you wish to purchase one.

A repeated request is for cleaning supplies for our newcomers who take pride in keep their living spaces clean and orderly.
