St. Bede's, Open to the World

“Open to the World,” the motto on our banner, tells a lot about our parish. The world, as we take in it through the news media, is often a scary place. I believe, however, that our life at St. Bede's allows us to move into that world, making it a better place for the people we encounter. Almost every Sunday, we are shown ways that we can leave the altar rail and take Christ's word out into the world. If we need bolstering during the week, so many resources in our church community, such as worship services, study groups, and special ministries, show us how to act out our role as Christ's messengers in the world. Moreover, we as a church, tithe, because 10% of our budget is dedicated to outreach to those who seek our help.

As we go into October and ready ourselves to think and pray about what each of us can contribute to the life of St. Bede's in the coming year, let's think about our witness to the world. Christ tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves. It is pretty easy for us to love one another in our parish family, even when we don't always agree. But how easy is it for us to witness to that larger world out there? Let us be thankful that our church is truly a beacon to the community and to the world and let's dig a little deeper to keep that witness alive.

Sunday, October 22 will be the kick-off of our 2007 Stewardship Campaign. Please mark that date on your calendar and plan to come to the Stewardship Luncheon after the 10:30 Service. We promise an inspiring program and to give you all the information you need to assist you in making your pledge for 2007. Let's work together to insure that we at St. Bede's remain “Open to the World.”
