Beders Urge Senators and Reps to Support
Millennium Goals

A tremendous thank you to the 45 (!) St. Beder's who responded with time and talent to the call to write letters to our Congressional delegation asking them to keep our government's commitment to support the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and to increase the amount of poverty-focused development assistance given by our government to help raise the poor nations of the world out of poverty.

A total of 96 letters were written to Senators Bingaman and Domenici and Congressman Udall as we participated in the Bread for the World Offering of Letters for the first time. The letters were blessed on June 25. I will deliver our letters in person to our Senators and Congressman on July 12 and 13 when I visit their offices in Washington , D.C. We hope to establish an opportunity for members of St. Bede's to continue giving time and talent to impact state, national and global policies that contribute to ending hunger and poverty by having a monthly “action table” at St. Bede's where letters will be written, requests made for phone calls or e-mails to our legislative representatives, or other relevant action requested.
